Reducing Noise Exposure Levels at packaging company’s Plants

Industry

Packaging company’s Plants

KFB Acoustics was approached by a prominent packaging and paper company, regarding a pressing issue related to noise exposure levels at their plants. The client faced a challenge wherein their employees were subjected to noise levels exceeding 85 dB(A) during an 8-hour working day. As it turned out, the majority of plants recorded noise levels in that range. The objective set for KFB Acoustics was to reduce the noise exposure levels below the permissible limit of 85 dB(A).

Steps taken

  1. Measurements and Acoustic Analyses. Utilizing tools such as SVAN sound level meters, a GFAI acoustic camera, and the Odeon Industrial acoustic simulation program, comprehensive acoustic analyses were performed.
  2. Based on the findings of the acoustic analyses, KFB Acoustics implemented a range of targeted acoustic solutions on the client’s site. These solutions included:
  3. Acoustic enclosures, Acoustic screens, Soundproofing cabins, Acoustic adaptations of ceilings and walls.

Our Approach to the Problem:

To address the issue of excessive noise exposure in this case, KFB Acoustics devised a comprehensive plan of action. The following methods and innovations were employed:

a) Measurements and Acoustic Analyses:

KFB conducted extensive measurements at workstations at the relevant plants and facilities. Utilizing tools such as SVAN sound level meters, a GFAI acoustic camera, and the Odeon Industrial acoustic simulation program, comprehensive acoustic analyses were performed.

These analyses allowed for a thorough understanding of the noise distribution, identifying specific machines and areas that exceeded permissible noise levels, and indication of a properly selected noise reduction strategy.

b) Implementation of Acoustic Solutions:

Based on the findings of the acoustic analyses, KFB Acoustics implemented a range of targeted acoustic solutions on the client’s site. These solutions included:

  • Acoustic enclosures: Enclosing noisy machinery and equipment within specially designed structures to contain noise emissions.
  • Acoustic silencers: Installing silencers on exhaust systems and ventilation ducts to mitigate noise propagation.
  • Acoustic screens: Erecting barriers and screens to block and absorb noise, particularly in areas where noise sources were concentrated.
  • Soundproofing cabins: Constructing soundproof cabins or rooms to isolate employees from high-noise environments.
  • Acoustic adaptations of ceilings and walls: Applying acoustic materials and treatments to ceilings and walls to enhance sound absorption and reduce reflections.

Summary:

Through the implementation of the aforementioned acoustic solutions, KFB Acoustics successfully reduced the noise exposure levels at our client’s plants. The post-implementation acoustic analysis indicated that the noise levels now ranged from 80-85 dB(A), effectively below the permissible limit of 85 dB(A). This significant reduction in noise exposure ensures a safer and more comfortable working environment for employees, mitigating the risks associated with prolonged exposure to excessive noise levels.

In summary, KFB Acoustics addressed a challenge of high noise exposure levels by conducting meticulous measurements and acoustic analyses. By implementing tailored acoustic solutions, including enclosures, silencers, screens, soundproofing cabins, and adaptations of ceilings and walls, KFB successfully reduced the noise levels and this case study exemplifies the effectiveness of our approach in mitigating noise-related challenges and improving occupational safety in industrial settings.
