  • Acoustics Course for Engineers

Programme: ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnerships for vocational education and training
    Project Reference: 2016-1-PL01-KA202-026719
    Start: 01-11-2016 – End: 31-10-2018

The aim of the project is to develop acoustics course for engineers with elements of gamification. Gamification is the application of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts. Gamification commonly employs game design elements which are used in so called non-game contexts in attempts to improve user engagement. The main purpose of the courses is to increase specialists’ awareness about the role vibroacoustic plays in the industry. This course will provide a source of expertise on acoustic issues in terms of specific needs imposed by a labour market. The implemented project is not a single event, but a part of a large strategy aimed at expanding and strengthening the knowledge about acoustics, supporting the development of innovative teaching methods, services and practices at the national and international level.

The project involves 5 organizations from 4 countries (with associated partners) – 2 enterprises (KFB Poland, Jazzy Innovations) and 3 universities (Ruhr University in Bochum, Catholic University of Leuven, Slovak University of Technology). Partners will be supported by associated partners from the world of industry, representing the audience. This is an extremely important for the project because it will allow the exchange of knowledge and experience between higher education institutions, and entrepreneurs. The project is coordinated by KFB, but the responsibility for its implementation depend on all partners involved. Our partners are involved in the creation of educational materials, which will then be transformed into a form of application and e-learning course.

Major recipients of acoustic courses are: specialists of various specializations (mechanical, process, rail and automotive engineering) who use acoustic expertise in their daily work. The course have to meet the individual needs of each group. The course will be a source of knowledge about vibroacoustic issues in the context of specific needs posed by the labor market (theoretical and practical). It will allow professionals to develop new career paths and stimulate their creativity. New skills will allow to apply and design better anti-noise solutions improving acoustic comfort (locally – at the workplace, near machines and devices, regionally – reducing communication noise, industrial noise, at national and international level – creating new solutions, standards, regulations).

The final result of the project will be an Internet application consists of two modules (ACE Module1: Vibroacoustic Issues, ACE Module 2: Simulator for Engineers). Materials for self-education will be placed on the Acoustic Courseware Platform developed by KFB Polska and on Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Platforms. The courses will be placed on the platform designed and developed by KFB Polska.

  • Launching the production of innovative acoustic panels

Title of the project: Lauching the production of innovative acoustic panels
Priority 1: Growth of competitiveness of lower slesia enterprises (“Enterprises and Innovation”)
    Operation 1.1.: “Investments for enterprises”
Scheme 1.1. A2.: “Investment subsidies for smes supporting product and process innovation at the level of the enterprise (excluding tourism projects)”

The aim of the project is to launch the production of innovative acoustic panels that are modular anti-noise solutions. As a part of the planned investment, the following prototypes of products will be implemented:

    • innovative, industrial acoustic panel for outdoor applications – two variants (medium and high insulation),
    • innovative, industrial acoustic panel for indoor applications (industrial halls) – two variants (medium and high insulation),
    • innovative acoustic panel for enclosing the machines and devices – three variants (low, medium and high insulation),
    • innovative resonant acoustic panel for enclosing the machines and devices – one variant (matching the tonal characteristics of machine noise).

The key action to develop the construction and vibroacoustic properties of the above panels were research works on anti-noise systems run by the Applicant. Carrying out the experimental development works were possible thanks to the existing and acquired research infrastructure – as a part of the project “System of modular anti-noise solutions with special vibroacoustic properties” (Operation 1.1.C – Investment subsidies for enterprises related to conducting research and development activities). Achieving the project’s goal will be possible thanks to the purchase of specialized machines enabling the production of four types of acoustic panels (eight variants) and their components. The acquired science park will allow for:

    • production of surface elements of acoustic panels,
    • production of acoustic panel frame elements,
    • production of elements connecting acoustic panels with frame construction,
    • production of sealing elements for connecting panels with wiring and ventilation,
    • production of resonance elements for the acoustic panel.

As a result of the project implementation, the four new industrial types of acoustic panels (eight variants) will be implemented. This will allow our company KFB Polska Sp. z o.o. strengthening the position on the domestic market and entering the product offer into European markets (mainly German). The implementation of the project will contribute to a significant growth of competitiveness of our enterprise.

  • ArAc Multibook of Architectural Acoustics

Programme: “Lifelong Learning Programme” 2007-2013 Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation
    Project Reference: 2013-1-PL1-LEO05-37588
    Start: 1.11.2013 End 30.04.2015

The essence of the ArAc project was to enable the transfer of knowledge and experience in the field of acoustics to the architectural industry. The result of the project was an innovative textbook, so-called multibook.

Architects use acoustic knowledge in their everyday work. However, as it resulted from the analysis carried out prior to the implementation of the project, in architectural curricula there are very few issues related to acoustics in architecture teaching programs. This problem applies to the entire European Union.

That is why we wanted to provide a tool that would enable architects to raise their competences in the field of architectural acoustics and support them in professional development.

The partnership consists of experienced teams from organizations representing several European countries. The partner institutions: Kahle Acoustics and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven from Belgium, Wroclaw University of Technology and gfai tech GmbH from Germany.

Knowledge accumulated in the multibook helps to understand and solve problems related to acoustics at the design stage. The multibook is an application for mobile devices (tablets, smartphones) and e-learning platforms, available in four languages. The user has mobile access to information at anytime and in any place. This is the first textbook of acoustics for architects of this type. Multibook is an innovative way to educate the public – “the futuristic way of education”.

More information can be found on the project website: www.arac-multibook.com

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme. This publication [communication] reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.
